"Jamaica! No problem!"

Jamaica was a wonderful, challenging, relaxing & tiresome little excursion for us.  Great, for sure.  But also different than we’d thought it would be.

The lead up to our flight out was just crazy. There was an issue with our tickets (reserved in A’s married name, in conflict with the maiden name on her passport), which gave us a scare less than 38 hrs before our flight was to leave.  We had a long night of furiously searching for our marriage license, with A exhaustedly crying every now and again in despair that she wouldn’t be able to go. (But we did finally find it!). The afternoon before our flight we discovered that someone had “stolen our identity” and had been purchasing hundreds of dollars of Mac stuff.  Raced to the bank.  Made the necessary urgent phone calls, and switched our financial life over to a safe account number.  And we still hadn’t even started packing.  But we finally, sleeplessly, made it on our early morning flight, even though we were pretty much maniacs by the time we got to the airport.

Oh! But then we were on our way to Jamaica! So exciting! It was so wonderfully hot and sunny as soon as we stepped out of the airport (which was horribly over air-conditioned).  The guys who taxied us to the resort offered us complimentary bottles of Red Stripe for our ride (which they were drinking plenty of as well).   We had to laugh at everything, which was so clearly illegal by US standards, going on everywhere we looked.  And everyone was so cheerful about it all: driving like maniacs, selling food out of shanties on the side of the road… and open-container laws? Whatever!  We soon learned that the answer to most questions or concerns was “Jamaica! No problem!”  And, of course, Bob Marley’s music played in the background everywhere we went.

Anyway, we did have a fantastic time.  It was so, SO beautiful.  Unbelievably lush and alive.  The food, especially the seafood, was incredible.  As you can see from the pictures below:
