This year we hosted Christmas (along with the Varners) for our foreign teachers family here in Korea. We made roast duck, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, home-made rolls, pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread all from scratch. And Nina made amazing pasta salad! Everything was delicious, and we are really growing to love our found family here.
It's been two years since we've been at home for Christmas. It's difficult any time of year to have separation from those we love, but Christmas can be especially hard. I get really teary and reflective. Derek led Christmas Church, and spoke a lot about why we, as Christians, celebrate this holiday. We celebrate that God came incarnate: that though we've rebelliously separated ourselves from Him, He comes to mend that separation forever. We celebrate that He has come to heal the most ultimate and devastating separation we have ever and will ever experience. And His pursuit of us and death for us will eternally heal all other separations forever. Praise God that this is true! Those of us who mourn, who long for each other, will not always taste this sorrow.
So we celebrate. We were happy to have our little found family to celebrate this year:
